Anna O'Byrne
Anna O'Byrne trained at the Victorian College of the Arts, graduating with a Bachelor of Music Performance (Honours) in Classical Voice in 2008. Whilst at VCA, she performed roles and excerpts from Le Nozze di Figaro, Die Zauberflöte, Suor Angélica, and Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream. She was the recipient of the Harold Fisher Opera Scholarship, the Gwen Nisbet Music Scholarship for academic achievement, The Walter and Muriel McConnan Trust Scholarship for the student ranked highest in talent in the Honours program, the Athenaeum prize, and an award in the Sleath Lowrey Rotary Scholarship.

Less than a fortnight after completing her degree, Anna was cast in the Australian production of The Phantom of the Opera, where she covered and performed the role of Christine Daaé opposite Anthony Warlow's Phantom. She toured with the production to Perth, Adelaide and Taipei.

In 2010, Anna was selected as a Principal Artist at Victorian Opera. She created the role of Polly Peachum in Malthouse Theatre/Victorian Opera's hugely successful co-production of the Brecht/Weill classic The Threepenny Opera, alongside Eddie Perfect, Paul Capsis and Judi Connelli. For Victorian Opera, she sang The Gossip in Angélique, and this year will cover Pamina in Die Zauberflöte.

Other operatic performances include Tamiri in Il Re Pastore for Lyric Opera of Melbourne, Die Fledermaus for In Good Company, and La Clemenza di Tito for the VCA Opera Studio. She has recorded for the ABC Classic FM Sunday Live Series, and provided vocals and soundscapes for the world premiere of Brett Dean's Bliss for Opera Australia.

Anna is also an experienced concert artist, performing with symphony orchestras and choirs around Victoria.

Her concert repertoire includes Mozart's Requiem and Exsultate Jubilate, Haydn's Mass in Time of War, Schubert's Mass No.2, and numerous Bach Masses and Cantatas. She has a passion for French Art Song, and in 2008 studied the songs of Francis Poulenc in England and France.

Having performed in Phantom in 2009, Anna is thrilled and honoured to be returning to the iconic character of Christine Daaé in the Australian premiere production of Love Never Dies.
