RAOUL, VICOMTE DE CHAGNY
Simon Gleeson
Simon graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 1998. He has since performed in many major musicals including Les Misérables (Australasian 10th Anniversary Production), Jolson, Shout, Mamma Mia! (Helpmann Award nomination), and as ‘Sean Flynn’ in Eureka under the direction of Gale Edwards. He was also a part of the Sydney Theatre‘s opening productions of Harbour and The Republic of Myopia for the Sydney Theatre Company.
In London he continued his professional association with Gale Edwards appearing as ‘Walter’ in the world premiere of The Far Pavilions in the West End (Whatsonstage.com nomination). His other UK theatre credits include: the world premiere of Imagine This in the West End, Three Sides, The Silver Lake, the Edinburgh Festival season of Certified Male and most recently Shoes for Sadler’s Wells. The highlight of this time was starring as ‘Angus’ in Southwark Fair for the National Theatre, working with famed director, Sir Nicholas Hytner.
Simon’s film and television credits in Australia include: City Homicide, Neighbours, Blue Heelers and Seachange. In London he played the regular role of ‘Sid’ in EastEnders (BBC 1) and was a member of the principal cast of Kombat Opera (BBC 2) directed by Monty Python member, Terry Jones. Simon played the role of ‘Ken’ in the feature film -- My Life In Ruins opposite Richard Dreyfuss and Nia Vardalos.
